How do you feel about casting a fairy tale with a racially mixed cast as in rodger and hammersteins Cinderella

How do you feel about casting a fairy tale like Cinderella with a racially mixed cast as in the Disney- produced version of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella with Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother, Brandi as Cinderella, Bernadette Peters as the Stepmother etc.? What are the effects? In your response, try to incorporate specific examples from the film.

I loved the racial mixing. Brandy and the asian guy were a hott couple. The only thing that bugged me was his parents weren’t the same race that the prince was and royalty aren’t exactly famous for adopting. But, you can’t beat Whoopi Goldberg’s expression of utter incredulity. Peters’ daughters being two different colors seemed plausible because she could’ve married a black man. I thought it was great because the cast got along so well.

The time period and the location kind of throw the possibility of the racial mix out the window. Not even in a class issue, the two races of people where separated by a continent when the story was supposed to take place.

However as a simple story, made by Disney, they have done worse with their history. Much worse.

Didn’t Kevin Federline’s ex already play an african american cinderella? I don’t really mind. Disney always makes blockbusters for children, and most children aren’t racist like many adults are.

However, I must say, your choice of actors seems like an attempt to give fading actors a job. Why not choose more current stars that children can recognize and adore?
