Is it dangerous to lay fairy lights underneath an electric fireplace?

I went to a pub and it had an electric fireplace, under which fairy lights had been placed. I wondered if that was dangerous? Or are fairy lights of too low a voltage to be of any concern?

No, and yes.
I wouldn’t consider that dangerous as long as the fairy lights are removed from the direct heat emitted by the electric fireplace.
The fairy lights are very low in voltage and they probably won’t be a problem for you although any live wires in direct contact with heat can be dangerous.
It could cause a problem for you if the protective sheath that covers the wires melts away leaving live wire exposed. This might create an unsafe environment where someone could get shocked by the exposed wire.
As far as serious bodily harm is concerned, I doubt that low voltage fairy lights should present a serious problem for you.
Still, it is always best to keep your fairy lights away from the direct heat coming out of your electric fireplace.
