“The Pogles”- Episode 6 “King of the Fairies”

Visit www.dragonsfriendly.co.uk for DVDs and CDRoms of Pogles Wood and many other magical Smallfilms productions. This episode first broadcast 1965. Wonderful children’s animation by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin. This episode was apparently one of several thought to be ‘too scary’ for a very young audience by BBC executives at the time.

I was born in 62 so prob just amazed the dolls spoke, story didn’t come into it either that or my mam & dad gave me drugs haha. Its like a puppet “till death us do part”. . .

Yo Pogles Wood How cool is that then? I havent seen this in years! Thank you thank you thankyou,
I loved this series the best, I find the warmth of the voices very attractive to listen to.
Who remembers the “theres nothing so nice for pogles and mice, as bread and butter and honey” song?
I remember going for a walk in the woods as a kid and desperately hoping that I would come across the pogles. Fantastic to see it. Those were the days. Now to have a look at Bizzy Lizzy !
always on the money
pogles, always on the money
blast from my childhood , happy happy days……….
This is creepy to me for some reason, maybe cause I grew up with loony tunes.
love it them were the days..
what a simple life we lived great times…if only kids were the same now …..
Fantastic animation. One of my more vivid childhood memories is hiding behind the couch when the witch appeared. I was also terrfied of witchypoo from pufnstuf, too- much to the delight of my brothers.
Very charming…….brilliant narration.
thanks for this….loved it as a kid
That voice! it makes me go all funny..must be getting old!
This was always my favourite ‘Watch With Mother’ and another programme that reminds me of our first house (we moved when I was 4 in 1969). Idyllic days -watching this with my mum before going out to play with the little girl Anna next door on sunny days that seemed to last forever. My best episode was one when they grew umbrellas and a little boy turned off a tap in the sky that made it rain.
Compare this and other ‘watch with mother’ titles. Notice how there was long episodes of silence albeit a simple flute melody as characters were chasing around; It gave young kids time to digest the educational message that was always in the episode. Compare this to the utter loud and perverse crap that youngsters look at now
ohhhhhhhh memories of pogles wood i loved this as a child
This is what my mum and dad watched! That’s why they call eachother Pogle and Woif! :D
Love this though I was a bit old for it when it came out.
