Watch Tooth Fairy Online

I’m a big fan of almost anything tagged as “retro”. Though I prefer the 60’s era, I get a kick out of almost anything with a past. When I watched Tooth Fairy online, I was amazed at first at how much it looked like movies used to when I was a kid. When I began seeing an unusual number of negative comments online, especially for a film not even released yet, I had to find what was up.

Watch Tooth Fairy online and, if you didn’t know better, you’d swear you’d already seen it. When a mean-spirited hockey player, played by WWF’s “The Rock”, is held accountable for something said to a young boy, he pays the penalty by pulling shifts as the tooth fairy. As “Disney” as the story sounds, this is not a product of Disney studios. Watch Tooth Fairy online and you’ll see a classically “Disney-style” trailer that has everything BUT the “Disney”. “Happy ending” fans surely won’t be disappointed by the trailer or the full-length film. It was that kind of “déjà vu” feeling.

Ruling out Disney as the nostalgic element, it seems the only clue to the film’s “retro” feel that comes across watching Tooth Fairy online has to be well-known screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel. If you’re old enough to remember the 80’s, chances are good they influenced how you remember them. A few, like “Splash”, became landmarks of pop culture film, but at least twice as many of their efforts were negligible, at best. Seeing that Michael Lembeck had joined with them as director brought it all together to explain what I’d felt as I watched Tooth Fairy online earlier. Other than directing two out of the three “Santa Clause” movies, his most memorable gig was as Max Horvath on “One Day at a Time”, the popular 80’sTV series. Clearly, what I had thought was nostalgia for the old Disney movies was instead a realization that the same moderately talented Baby Boomers, who pummeled us longer than should have been allowed with drivel like “Night Shift” and “Spies Like Us”, had sneaked back into mainstream Hollywood and were about to hit again!

Is that an unfair assumption? It might be, if not for the fact that the film has been in development since 1992, when it was intended to star Arnold Schwarzenegger. But considering that the full-length feature of what you’ve just watched in Tooth Fairy online could turn out to be a redux of the ignorable “Spies Like Us” is enough to make you start to see the beauty in the angel horror flick playing next door. Now raise your hand if you DON’T see a connection, on some level, with the mental image of the guest who refuses to leave the party, even though he should have left hours ago.
