What are some personality/physical characteristics of a fairy?

I am auditioning for an adaption of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and I am going out for a fairy. What are some things that will make me stand out/are what a fairy would have?

I’m not sure what sort of fairy you’re auditioning for or the type of aMND you’re auditioning for, but here are some good tips:

1. You /must/ be familiar with the storyline of aMND (obviously). If you’re a random fairy, know who your lords are (Titania & Oberon) and know who Puck is.
2. If you’re trying out for one of the main fairies, aka. Titania, Oberon or Puck, also be familiar with their parts.

Oberon- act very jealous. When people have issues with love they often speak their lover’s name in a harsh voice. Try it. Remember that Oberon makes Titania fall in love with donkey-Bottom because she refused to give him the boy, and he thinks she deserves this. Oberon is also kind of full of himself in my opinion, judging from the fact he assumed that Titania would give him the boy just because he asked.
Titania- The unsuspecting victim. If you got the scene where she is arguing with Oberon, be very realistic in your argument, with proper voice tone and hand motions. Remember that this boy Oberon wants is her best friend’s son.
Puck- You absolutely /must/ put something special into Puck if you’re auditioning for him because I assure you there’s going to be lots of people trying out for Puck because he’s so awesome haha. Try having a special talent. I’ve seen people who have used dramatic gymnastic effects like cartwheel or standing on their hands to emphasize Puck’s eagerness to serve Oberon.

General fairy-like characteristics:
-Have a lilting tone of voice. Flow your words together in a singsong way. The audience will easily be able to tell when you get angry; stop the voice when you feel it’s necessary.
-If you’re one of those rare people who are good at rollerskating, rollerskate in replace of wings. the sight of you zooming around the stage will surely set you apart
-Use drifting hand motions and make HUGE sweeping bows when adressing your fairy lords
-Laugh lightly a lot. Do everything lightly. Fairies are light people.

Hope I helped! Break a leg & good luck at your audition.
